Foundation recognizes health center as vital member
of California’s safety net.
“Over the past eleven years, the Foundation has provided more than $60 million in core support grants to the community health centers working on the frontlines of California’s of vibrant healthcare safety net,” said Peter Long, PhD, president and CEO of Blue Shield of California Foundation. “Our continued investment in the Free Clinic of Simi Valley reinforces our confidence in their ability to respond to new challenges while continuing to provide high-quality care to low-income residents in and adjacent to the Simi Valley area.”
The passage of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) has created seismic shifts for the safety net and the healthcare landscape as a whole. Core operating support is vital for ensuring that organizations like the Free Clinic of Simi Valley are able to provide essential services to more than 3 million low-income Californians, many of whom remain uninsured even after reform. The Foundation is proud to be a partner to California’s safety net providers through this grant, and through its other philanthropic investments in community health centers across the state.
“We especially value this type of unrestricted support from Blue Shield of California Foundation because not only does the Foundation value the Clinic’s services but it recognizes and has confidence in the Clinic’s ability to determine where best to utilize these funds,” said Fred Bauermeister, Executive Director of the Free Clinic of Simi Valley.
